Why do we choose PPR pipes for home decoration water supply pipes?

For the water supply system of home decoration, we will use plastic pipes to replace the previous iron pipes, but plastic pipes are not only PPR pipes, PE pipes are also commonly used for water supply pipes. Domestic water use often involves the transportation of hot water, and PPR pipes are obviously the first choice.

So why do home decoration usually choose PPR pipes instead of PE pipes?

The material of PPR water pipes is polypropylene, with an elastic modulus of 850MPa, good rigidity and insufficient flexibility; PE water pipes are used in the field of building water supply, the straightness of the pipes is not good, they are easy to bend, easy to deform, and the pipelines are not beautiful, but compared with PPR water pipes, there are almost no problems in this regard

We know that the lower the thermal conductivity, the better the thermal insulation of the water pipe. The thermal conductivity of PPR water pipes is 0.24, and the thermal conductivity of PE water pipes is 0.42, which is nearly twice as high. If PE pipes are used in hot water pipes, there will be many disadvantages, such as good heat dissipation, large heat loss, higher pipe surface temperature, and easy to burn. If we use PPR pipes, it will be more reasonable.

In terms of welding performance, the flange of PPR water pipe is round, while the flange of PE water pipe is irregular and easy to clog; the welding temperature is also different, 260 for PPR water pipe and 230 for PE water pipe. It is easy to over-weld and cause water leakage when using the special welding machine for PPR water pipe on the market. In addition, since PE material is easy to oxidize, special tools must be used to scrape off the oxide scale on the surface before welding, otherwise it cannot form a truly integrated pipeline and the pipeline is prone to water leakage. It can be seen that although both PPR water pipes and PE water pipes can be hot-melt welded, PPR water pipes are easier to operate and more convenient to construct, which is also an important reason for using PPR water pipes in home decoration.

This is the strength of PE water pipes in terms of indicators. PPR water pipes are stronger than PE water pipes, but PE water pipes are more flexible than PPR water pipes in low temperature environments. This is determined by the material itself, but it is meaningless to exaggerate the cold brittleness of PPR water pipes, because under low temperature conditions, the volume expansion caused by ice will cause the pipes to freeze and crack, so any pipes must be insulated when used. PPR water pipes have been used in China for more than ten years. Manufacturers have gradually reduced the hidden dangers caused by improper handling to a minimum through effective packaging and enhanced publicity. Rough handling and construction will also cause surface scratches and stress cracking of PE water pipes.
