The water supply system of home decoration currently uses plastic pipes to replace the previous iron pipes, but plastic pipes are not only PPR pipes, PE pipes are also commonly used as water supply pipes, so why do home decoration usually choose PPR pipes instead of PE pipes? This is mainly determined by the following characteristics:
The material of PPR water pipes is polypropylene, with an elastic modulus of 850MPa, good rigidity and insufficient flexibility; while the material of PE water pipes is medium-density polyethylene, with an elastic modulus of only about 550MPa, good flexibility and insufficient rigidity; if PE water pipes are used in the field of building water supply, they are easy to bend, easy to deform, and the pipelines are not beautiful, so PPR water pipes will be better.
The thermal conductivity of PPR water pipe is 0.24, and the thermal conductivity of PE water pipe is 0.42, which is nearly twice as high. We know that the lower the thermal conductivity, the better the thermal insulation performance of the water pipe. If PE pipe is used in floor heating, it will play its advantages. Good heat dissipation means better thermal radiation effect. However, it becomes its disadvantage when used in hot water pipes. Good heat dissipation means large heat loss, higher pipe surface temperature, and easy to burn. At this time, it is more reasonable to use PPR pipe.
In terms of welding performance, PPR water pipe flange is rounded, while PE water pipe flange is irregular and easy to clog; welding temperature is also different, PPR water pipe is 260, PE water pipe is 230, and PPR water pipe special welding machine on the market is easy to over-weld and cause water leakage. In addition, since PE material is easy to oxidize, special tools must be used to scrape off the oxide skin on the surface before welding, otherwise it cannot form a truly integrated pipeline, and the pipeline is prone to water leakage. It can be seen that although PPR water pipes and PE water pipes can be hot-melt welded, PPR water pipes are easier to operate and more convenient to construct, which is also an important reason for using PPR water pipes in home decoration.
