Whats the multilayer pipe?

Multilayer Pipe, also called multilayer composite pipe MLCP, or composite pipe, has been widely used for hot & cold water plumbing systems, underfloor heating systems & indoor gas distributions.,etc.

 Multilayer Pipe Structure

Multilayer pipes are a “composite pipe”, which are made of composite materials with a five layers’ structure. The inner & outer layers are regularly made of PEX-b / PERT (or HDPE) material, middle layer is aluminum core, which is welded in a seamless laser welding technology or overlap welding technology. To bond the PEX layers to aluminum layer, a special adhesive shall be used.

 

Whats the main advantages of multilayer pipes, by comparing to the other plastic pipe?

The multilayer pipe also be known as “aluminum-plastic compositie pipe”. It has combined the advantages of metal pipe & plastic pipe: 

High resistance to temperature & pressure:

The multilayer pipe made by PEX-b or PERT material is resistant to high pressure up to a maximum of 10 bars & at 95temperature.

✔ Oxygen barrier pipe.
The multilayer pipe is a oxygen barrier pipe, which can prevent oxygen permeating inside the pipe, owing to aluminum core in middle layer.
✔ Flexible pipe
The composite pipe is flexible, and can be bent easily (the min. Bending ratio reaches 5 times as pipe diameter).
 hygienical and health for drinking water.
The multilayer pipe be made of PEX-b is neutral in material, which is suitable for drinking water supply.
 Corrosion Free
No like steel pipe, multilayer pipe is 100% corrosion free.
 Low linear expansion
The composite pipe be made of PEX-b material has the similar linear expansion in relation to a variation in temperature to that of copper

 

What types of multilayer pipe can SUNPLAST provide? And which specifications of multilayer pipe that SUNPLAST can manufacture?

SUNPLAST multilayer pipe can be divided into 3 types, which are: PEX-AL-PEX pipe, PERT-AL-PERT pipe & PE-AL-PE pipe.  

 

PEX-AL-PEX Multilayer Pipe

PEX-AL-PEX multilayer pipe is made into five structures: inner layer & outer layer are PEX-b material, middle layer is aluminum core welded by overlap welding or laser welding technology. Between PEX-b & Aluminum is special adhesive to bond both material together.

 

PEX-AL-PEX multilayer pipe is the most common pipe that be used for indoor hot water plumbing & heating, gas distribution. The superior performance of PEX-b material made PEX-AL-PEX multilayer pipe can bear max.95℃ water temperature & max. PN10 bars pressure for long time service.

 

PERT-AL-PERT Multilayer Pipe

Same to PEX-AL-PEX pipe, PERT-AL-PERT multilayer pipe can also serviced at high temperature water max. 95℃, at the same time max. PN10 bars working pressure.

 

The only difference is, PERT-AL-PERT multilayer pipe’ inner & outer layer is PERT.

 

PE-AL-PE Gas Pipe

Different to PEX-AL-PEX pipes, PE-AL-PE pipe is NOT suitable for hot water plumbing, as the pipe’s inner & outer layer is made of HDPE material.

 

PE-AL-PE pipe is mainly used for indoor gas distribution. Be made in yellow color, PE-AL-PE gas pipe can bear max. 4 bars working pressure for natural gas distribution.

Which standards do SUNPLAST multilayer pipe be made into?

SUNPLAST multilayer pipe is made into GB/T18997 standard. At the same time, it can confirm to ASTM F 1281/1282 & EN ISO 21003 standard.

 

What certificate does SUNPLAST Multilayer pipe have?

The multilayer pipe from SUNPLAST is approved by various international certificates, like CE certificate.

 

Whats the main difference between laser welding & overlap welding of multilayer pipe?

Laser welding & overlap welding are the most regular welding technology for aluminum core of multilayer pipe.

 

※ Overlap welding technology is ultrasonic type welding, by using ultrasonic to weld the aluminum in a overlap way.

※ Laser welding technology, also called “seamless butt laser welding”, is to weld the aluminum by laser in a seamless butt welding way.

 

By comparison to overlap welded multilayer pipe, the laser welded pipe is considered to be more stable on aluminum welding jointing, especially when the pipe is rounded & beveled by reamer, the multilayer pipe with laser welding is no easy to crack off.

 

Can SUNPLAST composite pipe (or multilayer pipe) be packed in rolls?

Yes, the composite pipe is regularly packed in rolls. The pipe diameter 16mm, 18mm & 20mm are normally in 100m/200m length, while 25mm, 26mm & 32mm in 50m/100m length.

 

What colors can SUNPLAST multilayer pipe be made into?

 The regular colors available are: white & red color for PEX-AL-PEX or PERT-AL-PERT pipe for cold & hot water, yellow color for PE-AL-PE pipe for gas.

 

The other colors are also available as per customer’s request.

 

What’s the technical characteristics of SUNPLAST multilayer pipe (composite pipe) ?

Unlike the other plastic pipes can be connected by heat-fusion, the multilayer pipe can be installed by mechanical brass fittings.

PEX-AL-PEX Fittings

 

SUNPLAST can provide two types of brass fittings for multilayer pipe:


PEX-AL-PEX Compression fittings

PEX-AL-PEX compression fittings are designed specially for SUNPLAST multilayer pipe (or composite pipe).

 

The PEX-AL-PEX compression fittings, which are made of high quality brass material, are consists of four accessories: compression nuts, compression ring & brass body & EPDM O-rings.

 

The PEX-AL-PEX compression fittings are easily to install, a pair of adjustable crescent wrenches or pliers is needed.

 

SUNPLAST PEX-AL-PEX compression fittings can be provided in a diameter of 16mm, 18mm, 20mm, 25mm, 26mm & 32mm, which can cover all sizes of multilayer pipes.

 

PEX-AL-PEX Press fittings

SUNPLAST PEX-AL-PEX press fittings are “U” profile type, which is an innovative fittings that are for multilayer pipe.

 

To be manufactured by high quality brass material, PEX-AL-PEX press fittings are consists of two accessories: brass body assembled with two EPDM O-rings & stainless press sleeve. The two EPDM O-rings can provide perfect sealing performance, which ensures no leaking of piping systems for long time use.

 

SUNPLAST PEX-AL-PEX press fittings shall be installed by a special press tools that are provided by SUNPLAST.

 

The available diameter of PEX-AL-PEX press fittings are: 16mm, 20mm, 25mm, 32mm.
