Many water workers believe that PPR pipes of different brands or colors can be mixed at will. How should we view this issue?
This is because the main raw materials for manufacturing PPR water pipes are the same material, all polypropylene, so their physical and chemical properties are the same, so they can be well welded together after hot melting in theory, which is why there are generally no problems when mixing.
However, there is no special reason. It is generally not recommended to mix water pipes of different brands. It is mainly based on the following reasons:
1. The slight differences in the products make it difficult to guarantee the quality of welding. Although different manufacturers use polypropylene to produce water pipes, it is impossible to say that they are exactly the same.
In fact, the quality of PPR raw materials used by different manufacturers is different, and most manufacturers will self-proportion the raw materials during production. Therefore, there will be some differences in the physical and chemical properties (such as melting point, melt flow rate) and mechanical properties of the produced water pipes. These differences will affect the welding quality to a certain extent.
If a manufacturer uses inferior raw materials (such as adding recycled materials), then when welding with such water pipes, even if the best water pipes are used, the welding quality will be greatly reduced.
In addition, although the sizes of water pipes and fittings are produced in accordance with national standards, different manufacturers have different control over the standards during production, some of which are deviated and some are deviated.
If it is produced by a small manufacturer, it is more likely to encounter non-standard sizes. There is no problem with the matching of their own pipes and fittings, but when they are combined with other water pipes and fittings, there is a situation where they are too large or too small, which affects welding and ultimately affects the service life.
2. Once a water leakage problem occurs, the responsibility for the accident is difficult to determine. If pipes and fittings of different brands are welded, a more realistic problem is that if a water leakage problem occurs at the welding point, the responsibility for the problem is difficult to determine. It is not certain whether it is a welding problem, nor is it certain whether it is a product quality problem, let alone which brand of manufacturer should be responsible. At this time, the owner is in a big headache, and he can't say anything about his suffering, and can only bear the loss himself.
Mixing different brands of PPR pipes mainly affects welding. In fact, occasionally there is a need for mixed connection. The plumber can handle it carefully and generally there will be no problem. The problem is to avoid large-scale mixed connection, such as using one brand of water pipes and another brand of pipe fittings, which is easy to leave hidden dangers.
For water pipes of different colors, in most cases, different colors represent different brands. A few manufacturers will make different colors to distinguish product series, and at this time, try to avoid mixing.
