What are the adverse effects of adding calcium carbonate on PPR water pipes?

2024-06-21

During the production of PPR water pipes, adding calcium carbonate has two main adverse effects on PPR water pipes. First, and most importantly, the addition of calcium carbonate will reduce the mechanical properties of PPR water pipes and affect the static pressure strength of water pipes. Compared with PPR pipes with good mechanical properties, such water pipes are more prone to pipe burst accidents.

In addition, the thermal conductivity of PPR is 0.23-0.24W/(m·K), while the thermal conductivity of calcium carbonate is 2.5W/(m·K), so the addition of calcium carbonate will increase the thermal conductivity of PPR pipes. If PPR pipes are used in some floor heating and ground source pipes, it may be beneficial, but in household water supply, it will actually reduce the thermal insulation performance of water pipes and cause unnecessary waste of energy.
